Yuka Honda – Heart Chamber Phantoms

For her third solo album for Tzadik Records’ Oracles series, releases that “celebrate the diversity and creativity of women in experimental music making”, Yuka Honda delivers another fascinating, mostly instrumental set, this time using her programming and production skills to create what the label describes as “a hypnotic groove for young moderns”. Featuring two co-writes with Sean Lennon, with whom she currently performs in Yoko Ono’s regenerated Plastic Ono Band, and three with horns arranger Michael Leonhart (who also guests on percussion, keyboards and vibraphone), Heart Chamber Phantoms looks sets to be her most ambitious solo outing to date. Regular collaborators Dougie Brown (drums) and Courtney Kaiser (vocals) are among the other guests.

Top Live Show: YOKO ONO [Time Out, NY]

The legendary artist reconvenes Plastic Ono Band for her first local shows in years. By Jay Ruttenberg, Time Out New York There’s a great old yarn about an avant-garde figure who emerges from a mental institution in the late ’60s and attends an event downtown. John Lennon and Yoko Ono make their entrance. “Who’s the guy with Yoko?” the avant-gardist inquires. The anecdote isn’t inconceivable. Before her path collided with Lennon’s, Ono was, of course, a macher in an art underground that paid no heed to popular culture.

Sean Lennon’s holidays with his father (Times, UK)

"Out on the ocean, sailing away / I can hardly wait for you to come of age" (Beautiful Boy, John Lennon) by Sean Lennon, Times Online I don’t belong to that group of people who keep their childhoods neatly folded and tucked away, seldom seen, in a dresser drawer. My memories are scattered about the room like dust mites floating in sunlight. I’m unable to climb aboard even the tiniest steam train of thought without running over old origami animals in the Wild West of my youth.

BMH&TS is better than any post-Beatles album by McCartney, Harrison or Starr [L.A. Record]

Review by Scott Schultz, L.A. Record. Yoko Ono’s new album, Between My Head and the Sky, is better than any post-Beatles album by McCartney, Harrison or Starr. Yeah, I said it. The Ballad of Yoko Ono (Richmond.com)

by Hays Davis, Richmond.com There’s a fact about Yoko Ono that has been obscured over the past few decades due largely to her life and work with her late husband. Yoko Ono – Something For The Weekend (The Sun, UK)

By Gordon Smart, The Sun THE Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Knightsbridge is a popular spot with A-list divas passing through London.
