Making Double Fantasy was a great joy for John and me. But it was intense as well, since we were trying to finish it for the Christmas release. John knew what I was up against and protected me to the end. If it weren't for that, the record would not have been a dialogue between [...]
Dear Friends In this very special year, which would have seen my husband and lifetime partner John Lennon reach the age of 70, I was surprised that so many musicians from all over the world sent me their ideas of how they were making a tribute to John this year. But I was surprised the most by a call from EMI presenting me with a very ambitious project to get John Lennon's voice - his singing, his music and his lyrics - out to the world this year...

A Message from Yoko Ono Lennon: "In this very special year, which would have seen my husband and life partner John reach the age of 70, I hope that this remastering / reissue programme will help bring his incredible music to a whole new audience. By remastering 121 tracks spanning his solo career, I hope also that those who are already familiar with John's work will find renewed inspiration from his incredible gifts as a songwriter, musician and vocalist and from his power as a commentator on the human condition. His lyrics are as relevant today as they were when they were first written and I can think of no more apposite title for this campaign than those simple yet direct words 'Gimme Some Truth'." - Yoko Ono Lennon
By Brian R. San Souci, Rhode Island Monthly Thirty years ago this month, John Lennon left Newport on a small boat headed for Bermuda. He hoped the five-day voyage would unlock his musical writer’s block. It turned out to be the ride of his life. As the Megan Jaye sailed into St. George’s Harbour in [...]
Yoko Ono has had four consecutive No. 1 hits on the Dance/Club song charts, heralding what she calls the "new era of Yoko Ono." Surprisingly, she says this success originated from something akin to rebellion against her father. Ono was only about four years old when her father, a brilliant pianist, decided she should have formal musical schooling in her home country of Japan. From there, she learned pitch, chords, harmony, melodies both in class and through frequent concerts given before parent-filled audiences.
"Our life together is so precious together, we have grown--we have grown." These were the first words we heard John Lennon intimate on his classic album, Double Fantasy, released November 17th, 1980, after a pretty long hiatus from commercial recording as a solo artist. Taken from the song "Starting Over," these lyrics were written, with love, [...]
by Yoko Ono The sad news today was that La Fortuna was closing. I see the winter sky of N.Y. today from my window: sleet and snow. It reminds me of those hurried days of Double Fantasy. John and I would grab the little time we had and stop by La Fortuna to ruminate over [...]
