100 ACORNS
100 days of conceptual instructions by Yoko Ono
It's been 44 years since my book of conceptual instructions, GRAPEFRUIT was first published in 1964.
On 15 June 1968, John Lennon & I planted two acorns for peace at Coventry Cathedral. It was the first of our many Peace 'Events'.
In the summer of 1996, I picked up from where I left off, and wrote 100 ACORNS.
Starting on the 40th anniversary of the Acorn Peace Event on 15 June 2008, I will publish here an acorn every day for 100 days.
After each day of sharing the instructions, you should feel free to question, discuss, and/or report what your mind tells you.
I'm just planting the seeds.
Have fun.
Love, yoko

CHALK FOR PEACE: 14-21 SEPT 2008
by John Aaron, Global Project Founder, Chalk4Peace
From its beginnings in 2003 in Arlington, VA, as a Sunday sidewalk chalk project for children to its recognition by the Arlington Arts Commission, the DC Commission for the Arts and Humanities, the DC Mayor's Office, the Humanities Project of Arlington and Whole Foods Markets.
CHALK4PEACE has grown through the efforts of hundreds of events organizers, teachers, parents, community outreach coordinators, libraries, arts centers and other peace minded individuals and organizations. This year, we expect CHALK4PEACE to grow even larger than last year, as it is now happening on four continents and most of the sites from last year have enlisted others to join in and/or create their own sites.
CHALK4PEACE is not encouraged as an anti-war demonstration; rather, it is a creative presentation for young artists of all ages utilizing the theme of PEACE. More here. |

ARTIST AS MUSICIAN & THE OTHER WAY AROUND
New York Times
The NY MoMA show, which includes audio recordings and small-press publications alongside more conventional mediums, is accompanied by an extensive film and video program in the Roy and Niuta Titus Theaters.Viewers are greeted by the beatific face of John Lennon, in Yoko Ono’s “Film No. 5 (Smile)” (1968), a 51-minute record of Lennon’s facial expressions (right). Nearby is a selection of works on paper by other artists associated with the Fluxus movement: constellation-like scores by John Cage, collage drawings by Ray Johnson. Article here. MoMA here.

YOKO ONO INTERVIEW: GAY.COM
Q: Back in 2005, you released the "Everyman/Everywoman" single as a statement for gay marriage. Gay marriage still seemed like a pipe dream back then, but now it's a reality in a couple states. How did you feel when it was recently legalized in California?
YO: Isn't it amazing? I think it's great. But it should not be great, but normal. I was jumping up and down in my mind.
Q: Speaking of gay, I love that photo of you sandwiched between a drag queen and a gay boy on a New York Pride float.
YO: Did you like that? Whenever I hear music, my body starts to move before I can think. The music started, & I just started dancing.
Q: What would you like to say to your fans on Gay.com?
YO: I love you and keep on truckin'!

YOKO ONO: ORATO QUESTIONNAIRE: AUG 2008
Questions by Heather Wallace, Answers by Yoko Ono
Yoko, what advice would you give to an artist who has lost his or her sense of inspiration?
To know that it will come back at an unexpected time so not to worry or push it.. But be prepared for the time it will come back. Meaning, don't kill yourself getting drunk or shooting up. Just relax and have fun.
…to a peace activist who has lost his or her belief in peace?
If you believe in the doomsday scenario, just have fun while you can. Having fun is the best way to bring Peace in your life...and ours. Don't be upset then, that doomsday didn't come.
…to a war monger who never believed in peace in the first place?
Tell him stop being angry and enjoy life. If all of us did that, there will be peace.
…to a traveller who is stuck in the mud?
Take all your clothes off and roll in the mud until you get to the place there's no mud.
…to a beautiful woman who is “losing” her looks?
Just know that beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. To some people you are definitely more beautiful now. In fact, i'm already attracted to you now, since I sense the delicate shade created in your demeanor you probably did not have before.
…to a lover who has lost his or her love?
Sometimes memory is all you have. Some people don't even have that. Be thankful that you have one.
…to a human who has lost his or her sense of self?
What an illusion! When you lose your life, you will know that you did have a sense of yourself when you were alive. Don't wait till then. Just be thankful that you have your life, and therefore, a sense of yourself. We know you do. You are alive! It's not the time to hide from yourself.
Lots of love, yoko |

LENNONS ART ASKS THAT WE ALL COME TOGETHER
by Sue Harrison, WickedLocal.com
'Individuals, we are the ones who can make change', Yoko says, sounding as hopeful as she ever did. 'Professional politicians get stuck because there is so much red tape. People Power is much more powerful.'
When asked what message she thinks Lennon would be sending today, she is quick to respond:
''I’d like to think he would be doing exactly what I’m doing but doing it together. If he was doing artwork today he would definitely be doing it on the computer. That would be a big thing for him. It is that mix of enjoying the simple things in life while welcoming the new that personified much of what Lennon stood for. John was a small revolution. His work spoke directly to people. Not like a critic saying this is good, this is not good. When you see his work you just start smiling. Most work in the art field is so serious. You don’t feel that with John’s work.'

YOKO ONO: WISH FOR THE WORLD
by Biggs Museum of American Art
What a great man that John Lennon. The man who can tag the phrase, "All you need is love." has a legacy that is still carried out by his wife Yoko Ono. When you think of Yoko and John it is likely you'll think of world peace, and their desire for it. As stated above, Mr. Lennon believes that visualization of peace is the key to achieving it. This thought turned into the popular installation pieces by Yoko Ono, entitled the Wish Tree. The installation has been recreated in over 80 cities, most recently in Pasadena, CA.

YOKO ONO"S WISH TREES DRAW THOUSANDS TO ONE COLORADO
Pasadena Independent
Wish Tree for Pasadena, Yoko Ono’s only West Coast showing of her celebrated Wish Tree installation, attracted more than 10,000 people in its first week in the One Colorado Courtyard.
Attendance far exceeded expectations, with the 21 crape myrtles at the center of this elegant art installation now covered in thousands of wish tags expressing hopes for the future. More wishes are being added at the rate of around 1,200 per day, with 5,000 over the weekend.
Since opening on August 2, Wish Tree for Pasadena has evolved into a multifaceted snapshot into people’s hearts, with wishes demonstrating an astounding range of expression. From the whimsical to the sublime, the personal to the global, they tell they story of aspirations, deepest hopes and sometimes humorous observations about the world around us. From a child-like scrawl hoping to “visit dragonland,” to wanting a new job, to wishing for “a fearless heart for my daughter,” to hoping “for a free panini” or wishing “people wouldn’t lie,” these fluttering tags express the collective hopes of every age and background.

YOKO ONO: OUT IN HOLLYWOOD
by Greg Hernandez, Los Angeles Daily News
By this time, I've interviewed so many famous people that I rarely get nervous about it. But today, I got nervous. At 12:15 p.m. PST, I called Yoko Ono at her home in The Dakota for a column I'm doing on John Lennon's artwork which is going to be on exhibition next month in SoCal. I'll post the finished column in a few weeks but wanted to give you guys a little preview.Yoko was a little more open than I thought she'd be and actually very easy to talk to. My nerves were gone about 30 seconds into the interview.. We started out by talking about Lennon's artwork:"He was just being himself and himself was a guy who had an incredible sense of humor. It wasn't about trying not trying to impress critics, he was just having fun. More here & here.

GIVE PEACE A NEW DANCE
by Zeth Lundy, Metro New York
Ono, 75, has led an unprecedented lifelong career as a visual, conceptual and musical artist of the avant-garde, a fact overshadowed by her marriage to John Lennon.
In the late ’60s, Ono and Lennon spearheaded a number of peace rallies and Bed-Ins, the second of which, in 1969 Montreal, produced the original recording of 'Give Peace a Chance'.
Ono herself seems surprised by the song’s lasting impact, not to mention the remix project’s recently topping of Billboard’s Hot Dance Club Play charts. “We just did whatever we could and never looked back,” she says of her musical and activist collaborations with Lennon. “At the time, the Bed-In was the most important thing we were doing.”

THE MUSIC SLUT: 8 QUESTIONS WITH YOKO ONO
Q: I'm assuming you've been keeping up to date on the US presidential elections. What are your thoughts on the candidates & their goals?
YO: I believe in the power of grassroots movements. That is the strongest force. We should do whatever we can do instead of watching politicians control things. We're all a big family & the whole world is starting to improve. This is not solely because of politicians' goodwill. We live in a complex society. We need more than good politicians.
Q: I'm wondering what your opinion is on the progression of anti-war protests, from the '60s to modern day? How have they changed? Has it been for the better/worse?
YO: While they've been growing, there hasn't been a change in spirit. We're doing our best in so many ways. There's more of a community vibe now than ever before.

TALKIN' PEACE AND JOHN WITH YOKO ONO
by Marissa Moss, Huffington Post
Q: Are other musicians, artists, those with a public voice, doing enough for world peace or to promote peace? What are you doing next to promote peace?
YO: I think so. There are two things in this world: peace industry and war industry. And anybody who is doing something peaceful in their work is in the peace industry. It needs to keep developing and spreading. That's what we are doing....For me, I'm into just now the imagine peace tower. On October 9th I go to Iceland and put a light on the imagine peace tower. It's giving a lot of solace to people. Go to Imagine Peace. When you click into it, you'll suddenly realize that we are all family.

YOKO ONO: KUNSTHALLE BIELEFELD, GERMANY
by Fluxus Heidelberg Center Blog
For the 2008 exhibition in Bielefeld (featuring a selection of Ono’s work from 1961 to the present), works placed outside the museum will relate to the city itself. One of these will be a Wish Tree. Just before the opening of the exhibition, children and teens from three schools in Bielefeld will hang their wishes on a selected tree outside the Johnson building. A Golden Ladder, which is an allegory for the exhibition’s title, Between the Sky and My Head, will be installed in the Kunsthalle Park. The work is an imaginary, spiritual space centered between sky and earth. Inside the Kunsthalle, visitors will experience 3 floors of sculptures, paintings, drawings, photographs, films, and sound installations. An interview with the artist, filmed in Bielefeld, will accompany the exhibition. More here. |

YOKO ONO: ASKMEN.COM INTERVIEW
Q: You and John seemed to have a great relationship; what advice would you give to couples?
YO: Be understanding of one another and be willing to compromise. I mean, I think that life with another person is always difficult. The alternative however -- being alone -- is also very difficult.
Q: If John was here with us, what would he be doing?
YO: He would be doing the same: He would be innovating, he would have jumped on computers and the Internet... and he would probably come to the conclusion that they are overrated! (laughs).

YOKO ONO: ABOUT.COM INTERVIEW
DJ Ron Slomowicz: I want to ask you, this is something from your wisdom that I really want to take out of this. What can we as a genre that accepts all cultures, all races, all sexual orientations, what can we do to empower ourselves and the message of our music?
Yoko Ono: Come together, always together. I think that in the beginning there was a word and the word was love and love is what created the world. If love could create a world and the universe, then it could certainly heal the world. I think that this is a time that we should keep dancing with love.

COME TOGETHER IN SOUTHAMPTON
by Cindy Bowe & Lori Rush (via email)
Hi Yoko! I visited your art show in Southampton, NY this past weekend! It was amazing. My friend, Lori (left) and I (right) drove from Cherry Hill, NJ just for the show. I have to admit that we were hoping to see you as well! John's art was well worth the trip...we had a fantastic time! We smiled and cried and met some really wonderful people. It was amazing to feel close to the two of you through this collection of artwork. Thank you for sharing him with us, we miss him so much. Love & Peace, Cindy Bowe
Hi Miss Yoko.. THANK YOU! THANK YOU!! I never in this life or any, could have "imagine"d anything so amazing, beautiful, meaningful, wonderful, peaceful and powerful. I have been a fan for so long but never really knew how talented John was as a drawing artist until I experienced it for myself. When I walked in, I heard Paul singing an old Beatles song. Just a tiny bit disappointed.... But next I heard John's voice..(.Let me take you down, cause Im going to
Strawberry Fields..) John's voice was so mesmerizing, I had felt as if I were under a spell. His artwork was so amazing and emotional, I started weeping uncontrollably. The passion of his artwork, the presentation and the words describing his every picture, just captured my heart and reminded me of how much I truly missed him and his artistry. I was taught about the Holocaust many years ago and was told it was "to remember and never forget".... I thank you for keeping John's legend alive and with your love and dedication.. WE WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER AND NEVER FORGET...Forever Thankful, Peace & Love.....Lori Rush
Hi, Cindy & Lori! That was great that you went to John's show by travelling all the way from Cherry Hill, New Jersey! You guys look smashing in the photo. So I'm sure you brought sunshine to the exhibition! Lots of love, yoko |

HOW TO TEACH PEACE TO YOUR CHILDREN
How does one begin to teach children about Peace ?
It is a word so frequently heard in conversations these days, yet how do we explain its concept to children?
It's a little bit like saying 'do as i say not as i do' rather than leading by example, because we, the adults of our world are not really showing our children a concept of PEACE.
If we have the courage to be really honest with ourselves and take responsibility for our actions (or non action) it is difficult not to admit that actually far from knowing peace and living in peace, we are in fact doing quite the opposite.

TEN ETERNAL QUESTIONS
Questions by Zoe Sallis, Answers by Yoko Ono
1. What is your concept of God?
YO: God is within us and in all animate and inanimate objects in the Universe.
2. Do you think this life is all there is, or do you believe in an afterlife?
YO: I think we have been alive on earth and other planets as well for many, many lifetimes, and will be in the future as well. That's why we recognize each other in such a deep way.
3. Do you accept the concept of karma in the sense of cause and effect?
YO: Of course. But a tragedy is not a punishment, It is only a teaching. We become wiser for it. Joy is not a reward, it is an incling given to us what is possible for the human race in the end - that we shall all live in the joy of life.
4. What is your moral code in relation to right and wrong?
YO: Not to hurt yourself or others intentionally. Hurting creates bad ripples. But if somebody is hurt by you unreasonablly, then that is not your fault.
5. Do you believe you have a destiny, and do you see yourself as here to fulfill it?
YO: I believe that I am taught a lesson every day of my life by life itself. I think, in the end, what all of us are doing is to find a way to heal our selves and the planet for ourselves and for our children.
6. What has life taught you so far?
YO: The total complexty of the puzzle is not being revealed to us yet. But I know that I am part of it as you are and all of us are. The end picture seems to be beautiful.
7. What advice or words of wisdom would you like to pass on to those close to you?
YO: Stay alive. We love you. Don't deplete us of your energy. We are you and you are me and we are all together, as a wise man said.
8. Do you believe our survival on planet Earth is being threatened?
YO: No. if somebody or something seems to be threatening our survival, take it as a warning and take care of it. We are.
9. Who do you most admire in this world, historical or living?
YO: All people who are alive at this moment.
10. How do you find peace within yourself?
YO: By knowing that to find it is vitally important for the health of myself and the world.

WISH TREES FOR PASADENA: YOKO INTERVIEW
Yoko Ono's "Wish Trees for Pasadena" in the One Colorado courtyard now has 21 trees overflowing with knotted tags and scribbled wishes. There are now more than 10,000 wishes hung on the trees, and they're being added at a pace of about 1,250 a day, breaking all forecasts and sending the organizers scrambling to provide more tags. Pasadena's wishes will be added to the 700,000 that have already been collected at other Wish Tree installations. Eventually, the wishes will be removed and shipped to the Imagine Peace Tower, her memorial tribute to John Lennon, Ono said. "I'm amazed at how it's developing and growing and I am very thankful," Ono said.

GIVE PEACE A CHANCE
NUMBER ONE!
Yoko Ono is this weeks NUMBER ONE on the American Billboard Hot Dance Club Play Chart for the FOURTH time -
A feat unrivalled by any other artist of her generation.
The Billboard Hot Dance Club Play Chart is the most authoritative dance chart in America - meaning this week more American clubbers are dancing to Yoko Ono than to any other artist, whether in the dance or the mainstream genres.
ONO’s previous Billboard No.1 dance singles have been:
Walking On Thin Ice (May 2003) Everyman Has A Man Who Loves Him/
Every Woman Has A Woman Who Loves Her (Nov 2004) No No No (Jan 2008)
Give Peace A Chance (v1) (v2) (Aug 2008).
Ono’s current album Yes, I’m A Witch has seen her work reinterpreted by some of the most credible contemporary figures in music, including Antony Heggarty, Cat Power, Jason Pierce and the Flaming Lips. Meanwhile, she continues to combine her work as one of the world’s leading conceptual artists with making music and working as a peace activist.
The success of Ono’s new version of Give Peace A Chance proves that the peace message John Lennon and Yoko worked so hard to spread has been adopted by a new generation of clubbers, music fans and DJs, to whom Yoko says simply:
I thank you with all my heart and send you much love,
yoko |

World peace is all very well, but what 3-year-old Cabral Corvelo really wants is "To make a water balloon and a pancake."
His wish joined dozens of others carefully written out and tied to the branches of 21 flowering crape myrtles Saturday at the opening of Yoko Ono's "Wish Tree" installation in Old Pasadena.
The wishes were personal, "For more understanding,"
and serious - "An end to the genocide in Darfur" -
and easy to grant: "Some bubbles. "
Someone even tied on a signed marriage proposal to his soulmate:: "I wish to marry Lucy ... Love is all there is."

IMAGINE PEACE will showcase interactive works by Ono which demonstrate her long-standing ambition to involve individuals in the process of achieving peace through the power of imagination.

The exhibition will also include photo-documentation of the world-wide broadcast of the Beatles All You Need is Love, and the accompanying parade of signs with the word “love” in several languages; Ono’s all white chess piece, Play It by Trust; Lennon’s lithographs from the Bag One portfolio; Collaborative works, such as their Acorn Event, Bed-In, and the international advertising campaign War is Over! will be represented by films, large-scale photomurals, and lithographs.

LOVE AND GRATITUDE TO WATER CEREMONY
ON SUNDAY 3RD AUGUST 2008
by Dr. Masaru Emoto
Dear Friend,
Our planet Earth is called "Planet of Water".
We have not found any other planet in this vast universe, which contains such a great amount of liquid water. It is said that our life was born in the primordial ocean of this planet, and water is a critical element for us to maintain our life form.
All life could not exist without water.
Our precious and essential resource, however, has been seriously polluted all over the world.
Lake Baikal located in eastern Siberia is the largest and cleanest supply of freshwater on the planet. It has long been admired as the"Sacred Gem" and "Pearl in Siberia". It is said that Lake Baikal is the deepest lake on Earth and holds 20% of the world's freshwater supply, which is more than the amount of water of the Five Great Lakes in | |
