YOKO ONO to serve as CFI Honorary Board Member

Science and Policy Advisory Council Announced

The Center for Foodborne Illness Research & Prevention (CFI) today proudly announces that international icon Yoko Ono is joining the board as an honorary director, bringing her limitless creativity and renown to the food safety non-profit. CFI also announces the creation of a distinguished panel of scientists and policy experts who will provide strategic advice to the organization.

CFI CEO Barbara Kowalcyk thanked the advisory council for their support. “CFI is a science-based organization. Our goal is to link the best science of food safety and foodborne illness to public policy for the benefit of America’s consumers. I am looking forward to working with the Science and Advisory Council to achieve our goals and appreciate their affiliation with CFI.”

Kowalcyk welcomed Yoko Ono to the organization. “I am honored to have Yoko Ono join CFI’s board. Receiving the Lennon Ono Grant for Peace in 2010 and being part of the IMAGINE PEACE community has been incredibly meaningful for my family and me. I appreciate Yoko’s support of CFI and what we do. Safe food and water are the building blocks of a healthy civil society both at home and around the world.”

Yoko Ono praised CFI’s focus on an integrated One Health approach to food safety. One Health integrates animal, plant and environmental health, focuses on prevention, and creates a healthier planet for all. “I am proud of Barbara and the work she does,” Ono said. “She has a great vision for improving food safety, and I am pleased to be a part of her efforts.”

Barbara Kowalcyk and Pat Buck founded CFI in 2006 to advocate for science-based solutions to the food safety challenges facing the world. Their story was featured in the 2009 Academy Award nominated documentary, Food, Inc.

Barbara Kowalcyk was propelled into food safety advocacy in 2001, when her two-year-old son, Kevin, died after suffering an E.coli infection from tainted food.

Barbara and her mother Patricia Buck created the Center for Foodborne Illness & Prevention (CFI) a national non-profit organization committed to improving public health by preventing foodborne illness through research, education, advocacy and service.

    ☮The consciousness of good food makes a happy and healthy life because we are what we eat and the pollution and contamination of some foods that have increasingly under care of the food source, it seems that the fish already has a lot of mercury contamination, Yoko as always you do your part in contribution of clarification and dissemination of environmental awareness, healthy and humane. ☮
