Yoko Ono pays tribute and lays flowers at the Hiroshima Memorial, August 2011.

Dear Friends,

The 1945 atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were a tragedy of the greatest magnitude.

Even now, sixty six years later, many victims of the violence of atomic weapons are still suffering, physically, in Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

People make a point of it. They don’t want us to forget. Of course, we are not forgetting.

But when you actually visit Hiroshima as I have last year, you will be totally surprised by what you see and experience. Hiroshima now is a beautiful shining city with healthy people and great food!

You can understand why they have to tell us to not forget the tragedy which happened 66 years ago. The long shadow of the tragedy you expect to find here is hardly here.

How did they do it?

“All that we are is the result of what we thought.” – Buddha

Yes. It’s the thoughts of the Hiroshima people who brought this incredible recovery.

Last year, the 3/11 hit us hard. And for us and for our planet it is important that we make the fastest recovery from it.

Let’s start with having good thoughts – especially about ourselves.
Don’t waste time being angry at greed-ridden corporate guys and lying-through-the teeth politicians.

We have to focus on what we can do, and do it.

Believe in the power of goodness which we all have.
Be an oasis for people who are suffering from spiritual thirst.
Have a vision of a society that has ridden itself of social injustices.

This time, we are challenged to make a mass enlightenment.
It’s not any different from other challenges we have had to take care of.
We always did take care of them, and came out of it.

The Human Race is a miracle race.
We can do anything we want.
Just focus on what to do, and how simple it is.

Look into people’s eyes.
They are your eyes.
They are beautiful.
They are smiling.

Let’s go!

I love you!

☮Always my heart hurts when I think of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the wickedness and cruelty of men who make war and spread evil in the world but then remember that there those who make peace happen and fight for it just like you Yoko. ☮

    Yeah,Yoko,

  7. Helen Buckley says:

Whatever anyone thinks of that event and the reasons for that event, we must never forget that people suffered. Some people suggest it was necessary, some [people were involved in the war effort but there were many, many who weren’t. This must never be allowed to happen again.
To the people who survived I hope they have peace, to the people who remember I wish peace for them. To the people who wish to grow in a peaceful planet, I just hope.

  10. K says:

What an optimism! If we do not do anything about “greed-ridden corporate guys and lying-through-the teeth politicians,” how can we bring justice to the society that everybody can be smiling? I do not like empty words, which only call for emotion.

    • Ciardha says:

She’s saying the opposite to what you are thinking- she’s saying do something! Don’t just sit there and angst yourself sick. As one of Yoko’s 21st century songs goes “it’s time for action”. Don’t be destructive- including to yourself, be constructive. Don’t stay isolated and feeling hopeless..

  11. Jacqueline Jane Knox says:

  14. Peace is a choice…Each moment we decide our future..Each step a decision..This is true power…The power to choose our outcomes, in relation to each other and our own moments…We can choose to have a negative outcome or a beneficial one..Why not choose a peaceful action, thought…Our thoughts are projected onto the world and each other…We can feel each others energy..Energy is palpable..we can decide to let go of fear and embrace an attitude of love and caring and kindness in each moment interaction….A smile, helping hand, embrace, understanding listening, being with each other and allowing each other to just simply be….Our lives and other lives are in the choices we make…Let take responsibility for the world…Act now , change your thoughts change your life……Perception is the key…Is your perception deluded..Are you being your authentic self or are you behaving in character predestined by conditioning………Happy Peace day, make it last a lifetime….

  15. david asleep says:

My heart and dreams are for world peace. Blessings of kindness and success for all those who seek to make this a reality. Thank you, for beautiful inspiration Yoko not only with peace but in creativity and art form.

    Love you,

    David
