OPEN #15. International Exhibition of Sculptures and Installations: ‘Flags’

The fifteenth edition of OPEN, International Exhibition of Sculptures and Installations will be held in Venice Lido and in the San Servolo Island from 30th August to 30th September 2012 in parallel with the Venice Cinema Festival and the Architecture Biennale.

This edition will exhibit “Flags” created by artists that will be shown around the outdoor spaces of the Venice Lido, especially IT’S TIME FOR ACTION by Yoko Ono, which can be seen at S. Maria Elisabetta.

OPEN is based on a consolidated and successful exhibition formula in which the “artist-country” combination and the outdoor spaces at Venice Lido become an international platform of exchange and interaction on which to rethink and redefine the current status of art through the meeting of artists, curators, institutions, embassies and ministries.

OPEN is held in collaboration with the Cultural Councillor’s Office of the Venice Municipalityand is patronised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cultural Affairs, in agreement with the support of Embassies of the Foreign Countries, the Regione Veneto, the Provincia di Venezia and the Venice Municipality.

For five years OPEN has been awarded the Silver Plaque of the President of the Republic.

In the previous editions, OPEN has welcomed over a three hundred artists from seventy countries and has included majors works of international repute artists such as: Magdalena Abakanowicz, Carl Andre, Arman, Louise Bourgeois, César, Chen Zhen, Chen Wenling, DennisOppenheim, Sandro Chia, Christo and Jeanne-Claude, Erik Dietman, Leòn Ferrari, KeithHaring, Dennis Hopper, Ju Ming, Bharti Kher, Richard Long, Luigi Mainolfi, Feng Mengbo, Marisa Merz, Max Neuhaus, Nunzio, Yoko Ono, Marc Quinn, Jean-Pierre Raynaud, Niki de Saint-Phalle, Beverly Pepper, Fabrizio Plessi, Mimmo Rotella, Julian Schnabel, Emilio Vedova, Bernar Venet, Yue Minjun, Wang Guangyi.
