HAPPY 75TH BIRTHDAY GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE!

In 1933, just before I was born, my father Yeisuke Ono left Tokyo to go to San Francisco.
In 1935, my Mom, Isoko and I travelled to San Francisco to meet up with my father.
I was 2½ years old.
The Golden Gate Bridge was still incomplete.

This still is from a 16mm film taken by my father.
You can see that the bridge is not completed yet!
I was there when the two sides finally came together in 1937 and became a bridge.

I even remember the song for the opening of the bridge!
A big brass band was playing with huge drums, trumpets, trombones and cymbals while they marched on for the opening.
This was the first time I saw anything like that!
It was beautiful!

SAN FRANCISCO, I LOVE YOU!
