I loved your Flaming Lips collaboration, especially the song “Brain of Heaven”. I was just wondering what was going through your mind while you were recording that song? It’s really beautiful and I love it. Thanks for being you all these years

Wayne of The Flaming Lips is getting some very strong messages from somewhere in the sky. As I am, too… So we work well together.

What do you do when you feel like the creative process is ripping you apart?

The creative process always gives you great energy and healing. It never rips you apart.

Deborah Lindo Zingg
Yoko, are you a morning person, or a night owl? I’m a “Morning has Broken” kind of gal. Love the sunrise.

SUNRISE! Wow! You said the magic word. I remember so many times John and I were in the studio all night, and coming back home, we breathed in the sun which was just coming out. It was grand!

Angela Mata
I thought you might like this quote from Martha Graham…enjoy and have a lovely Friday! There is a vitality, a life force, a quickening that is translated through you into action, and because there is only one of you in all time, the expression is unique. And if you block it, it will never exisit through any other medium. It will be lost. The world will not have it. It is not your business to determine how good it is, not how valuable it is, not how it compares with other expressions. It is your business to keep it yours clearly and directly. To keep the channel open.

Keep the channel open! That’s it!

Jd Lookadoo
You and John were outspoken since then the world has changed dramatically … some say it is better while others say it has become worse … what are your views about the changes?

Nothing has really changed. We have our eyes to see, our hearts to feel and our brains to keep giving us the best ways to survive. That’s how it was and is.

Marie Therese
Dear Yoko, Did John ever talk about his Irish blood?

Did he ever! You know that he wrote a few songs about his love for his Irish blood as well.

Brian Shepherd
Yoko did john ever tell you the truth if Paul McCartney was really killed in a car crash years ago and was replaced by another look alike? I doubt he did but I will ask anyhow

I just spoke with Paul a few days ago. He is definitely alive and well. And getting wiser and wiser. Writing good new songs.

Laura Poisel
What was your fondest memory as a child, Yoko?

When the sun comes out in the morning. I was always afraid of the dark.

Joan Lorenz
Do you believe in reincarnation like many Japanese?

Why do you say Japanese? The reincarnation idea probably originated in India and went to China before it came to Japan. I find that modern Japanese people are not much into the idea.

Claudia DeHaven Travis
You have been terribly persecuted by others inability to accept change. An ugly human flaw. Any advise for those of us hated for ‘taking others away’ even when that choice is good. How do you stay above the constant criticism and meanness aimed so personally? You are so strong and graceful.

I didn’t have much choice but to accept the stone throwing at me. I am still amazed that I survived. Thank you, thank you, thank you whatever powers of the Universe which made me survive.

Ok here’s one I think about often. That time you kicked John out for drinking, what convinced you to take him back?

He wanted badly to come back to me. I realized then that we were still in love with each other.

ProjectRugged
When you and John would talk about the future in bed, did the two of you have confidence that others would carry on with the torch of Peace & Love like John and your “WAR IS OVER” (if you want it) campaign?

No. We had no idea that our campaign will be successful.

Have you written any essays lately?

I am writing lyrics to songs for the next album. I didn’t mean to. It’s just coming out of me, so I am not stopping. A writing for an essay is making noise, too, in my head. But I am so busy now… I wait until it gets to be boiling so much that I cannot ignore it.

Linda Stonestreet ‏@Tonestreet
Do you see indigenous culture being of value in re-crafting reality?

Yes. Don’t ignore or take light of indigenous culture. A strong energy comes from it.

Ernesto Resendez III ‏@presidential27
Can there be peace with no love? Can there be love with no peace?

Peace couples with love not hate. Love couples with peace not war.

Brave New Jams ‏@BraveNewJams
Did you have a good 41st Nutopia Day celebration. Big party here at the Northern Embassy.

Wow! Great! It’s always good to celebrate strong belief. Don’t stop.

camille ‏@cammmmmmi
Where do you buy your hats? Cause I love them so muchhhhhh :)

I love, love, love hats! It’s a nice thing to buy when you are visiting a new country, too. It’s not as expensive as a car and not messy like ketchup!

As a young woman, I often feel like the world doesn’t take me seriously. Did you feel that way? What did you do then?

I just went my own way.

Kerry ‏@kerrylee54
Why do you wear all black – is there an intended statement in your choice to do so?

When I try to get something in colour I find that black suits me the best. Well, maybe not. But it’s the simplest thing to do for a very busy woman… to get yet another black outfit. Dah…

Debra Carr ‏@artdebogallery Mar 28
Did you and John ride camels when you went to Egypt? And how did you like it?

No. We didn’t try it. You know, it seemed too touristy.

Laura Mullen ‏@afteriwasdead Mar 28
How can we make ourselves clear in the echo chamber of sexism & racism?

Walk out of the echo chamber and breathe fresh air.

Lisa Weston ‏@LisaWestonPhoto Mar 30
What is your favorite moment in time?

They say the evening light is sacred. Well, in my book, every moment in our lives is sacred, and incredibly enjoyable. I feel grateful that we have so many beautiful moments in our lives.

Joseph Martin john is a light that will never go out for all you need is love will continue to feed this light
he was a poet, songwriter, composer, a father, a champion for peace but most of all he was just a man. unlike paul m. he could feel and write a…bout pain and longing and reach the depths of dispair and somehow it was beautiful Help i need somebody, so i sing a song of love for julia, mother you had me but i never had you, women you understand the little child inside a man, i was dreaming in the past and my heart was beating fast, if you want money for people with minds that hate all i can tell you brother you’ll have to wait, war is over if you want it, no need for greed or hungar a brotherhood of man,but most of all IN MY LIFE I LOVE YOU MORE
happy birthday john you are loved and i and millions more will miss you

  5. Felipe says:

Yoko, your message is beautiful and we still believe in Peace.

Here in South America we fight everyday for our beliefs, our ideals, our peace motives and for the beauty of life.

Sometimes is very hard to swim against the currents, against over consumption, against the media, against the powerful and their money.

But when i saw you and your willpower to keep screaming for peace and love for everyone, i feel alive now and i’ll keep yelling and working to build a better world for us all.

    Thank you Yoko. Mata ne!

    Felipe Nadeau.
