YOKO ONO PLASTIC ONO BAND – Live performance in Reykjavík, Iceland, Oct 9, 2010.
Yoko Ono Plastic Ono Band, revived last year by Yoko and Sean Ono Lennon after a long hiatus, will play an exclusive concert at Háskólabíó, Reykjavík on October 9th.
The concert, which will be dedicated to John Lennon, is one of the events that Yoko Ono will be holding in Reykjavík, Iceland on October 9th to celebrate what would have been John Lennon’s 70th birthday and promote peace throughout the world.
In its earliest incarnation, PLASTIC ONO BAND featured Ono’s late husband John Lennon, and released “Give Peace a Chance” in 1969. Forty years later Ono revived the project, releasing Between My Head and the Sky. The album has garnered impressive critical acclaim, including four & five-star reviews from Rolling Stone, Mojo, Spin, Uncut, Q, NME, Nylon, Pitchfork and others.
Last year, Yoko was also recognized with the prestigious Golden Lion lifetime achievement award at the Venice Biennale, and the Mojo Magazine Lifetime Achievement Award.
Under the musical direction of Sean Ono Lennon, the new PLASTIC ONO BAND includes Japanese musicians Haruomi Hosono (of Yellow Magic Orchestra), Yuka Honda (of Cibo Matto) and Keigo Oyamada, Shimmy Hirotaka Shimizu and Yuko Araki (of Cornelius). YOKO ONO PLASTIC ONO BAND will certainly leave its mark on Reykjavík City.
For the first time, Reykjavík audiences will be treated to a performance by YOKO ONO PLASTIC ONO BAND that The New York Times called “…ghostly, furious, dreamy, caustic, urgent, exultant, orgasmic” and MTV hailed it as “Historic and genius”.
All proceeds from the ticket sales will be donated to a good cause in Iceland. Further details to be announced.
The concert is now SOLD OUT.
