Forward this action to everyone you know!

Make copies of our special action flyer and give it to all your friends, family and colleagues this coming week, urging them to call their senators. You can sign up here to join our action team. Individuals who recruit the most mobile team sign-ups and calls to the Senate through September 30th will receive with coupons for free Ben & Jerry’s ice cream — enough for a free pint of Ben & Jerry’s each month for a year, or to host a youth PROMISE ice-cream party!

The Youth PROMISE Act (Youth Prison Reduction through Opportunities, Mentoring, Intervention, Support & Education Act, H.R. 1064/S. 435) is a bipartisan measure currently before Congress. The bill’s passage would create unprecedented investments in proven community-based violence prevention and intervention practices, such as mentoring, after school programs and other innovative diversion strategies. Over half the U.S. House has signed on to co-sponsor the legislation, with momentum growing rapidly in the Senate.

Our most vulnerable youth deserve our support, this is a powerful step in the right direction, and it”s passage is within our grasp. We need your help today by contacting your Senators, urging them to sign on. Together, we can make this happen.

Gratitude,
Aaron Voldman

Dear Friends,

We are excited to announce that on September 21st, the United Nations sanctioned International Day of Peace, we are mobilizing a texting campaign in partnership with Ben & Jerry’s, the Gathering for Justice and other groups to support the Youth PROMISE Act.

By joining our mobile team, you will receive occasionally key text updates and actions.  This is not signing the petition.
The Peace Alliance will never charge you for messages, but your carrier’s message and data rates may apply.

Anthony Keidis (Red Hot Chili Peppers) shares why you should help support the Youth PROMISE Act, http://www.youthpromiseaction.org a landmark violence prevention and intervention bill.

Andy Barker, Social Missions Coordinator for Ben & Jerry’s talks about why they support the work of peace, and the work of Student Peace Alliance and The Peace Alliance.

Wherever you are, please join us to mobilize for the Youth PROMISE Act. With your support we can enroll thousands of mobile activists to call the Senate to pass this critical bill.

Click here to learn more and sign-up now.

You can work with a local team to organize a small tabling event on a campus or at a local International Day of Peace event, or it can be as simple as asking your friends, family and colleagues to take the mobile action (your friends who don’t use texting can still call).  Be creative and participate in anyway you can!  See more possibilities below.

As a part of our partnership with Ben & Jerry’s, we’ve decided to reward the top champions who generate the most mobile sign-ups and calls with coupons for free Ben & Jerry’s ice cream — to throw a Youth PROMISE Act ice-cream party or otherwise support your organizing efforts.

Your support will help magnify the impact of our Ben & Jerry’s ice-cream events in Los Angeles, CA; Ann Arbor, MI; Boston, MA; Washington, DC; Philadelphia, PA; Dallas, TX; San Diego, CA and Gainesville, FL.  September is a key month to move this legislation through both houses before the new congress next year.  Sign-up today to help us make it happen!

Ways you can participate:

  • Ask all your personal network to text and call their Senators.

  • Hold a house party with friends, text and make the calls to Senators.

  • Host a small tabling event with friends on campus or in a high traffic area.

  • Host a “Chalk 4 Peace” action with youth.  Learn more at http://www.chalk4peace.org/

  • Write a Facebook note or entry on your personal blog that focuses on the Youth PROMISE Act and it’s benefits. Entries MUST include a link to www.youthpromiseaction.org, mention TPA/SPA within the text, and include an action to text “Peace” to 738674.
