About the Randers Kunstmuseum
The Randers Art Gallery was founded as early as 1887. It is located in the middle of the city in a building used for different cultural activities. The building is drawn by Flemming Lassen and was erected in 1969. The building contains the principal library of Randers at the ground floor, the Museum of Cultural History on the first and the Randers Art Gallery on the second.
The museum has at its disposal a total of 1800 m2 of showroom out of which the main part consists of large brightly lit rooms for the exhibition of paintings and sculptures. These rooms are primarily lit from above by the daylight which is led in by light wells. Furthermore the museum contains a couple of minor rooms with artificial light, these rooms are used for the exhibition of graphics.
The Randers Kunstmuseum contains Danish and foreign works of art from c.1800 to the present. The collection is particularly rich in danish art from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, but also contains a comprehensive representation of modern art. A speciel section exhibits works by Sven Dalsgaard.
